Every February 28, all roads are led to the progressive town of Valladolid, bringing more visitors, friends and family members to witness her annual Pasundayag Festival as a form of Dolidnon's (resident of Valladolid) gratefulness for the good harvest which the farmers, the fishermen folks received for the year.

Valladolid is one of the towns in the 4th District Of Negros Occidental, Philippines. It has 16 barangay. Her total population is 36,416 in 2010 census.

Historically the town is known as the Rice Granary of Negros Occidental for 90 percent of its arable land was planted to palay. It produced more than half a million cavans of rice every year. It also produced vegetables, fruits and the diwal or angel wings shell, a seasonal delicacy.

With this blessing of good harvest, the town celebrated Pasundayag Festival not only for a thanksgiving of good harvest, but also to give honor to her patroness, Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe. In the highlight of the said celebration, a street dancing competition and arena festival dance showdown and merry making were held to sustain the town's visitors, tourists and friends on the last day of the festival.

My wife, Rebing and I spent the half-day to join the Dolidnon for their festival while I was covering the street dancing and other memorable happenings in the said and sharing them to my family, friends, and blog followers. Our son-in-law, Almon served as our personal driver using his motorized tricycle for our service in transporting us to and fro.

Besides, we had also an important event to observe in Valladolid for it is our 45th years that we had been there, especially in the seawall where I stole a first kiss from my sweetheart, now is my present wife. I couldn't or rather we couldn't forget that day. We went to the place where we stood and peacefully looking in a far where we clearly saw the horizon in the sunny late afternoon.

  13. First time I heard of this festival, thanks for spreading the information. Their street dancing almost looks like the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan in Davao City, except perhaps on the theme revolving around the presentations (Indak Indak depicts stories about the Davao natives we call lumads through dances, stunts, and group formations with loads of props). I wanna go to Negros Occidental one day, my father's birth place. :)
